In a remarkable feat of engineering and logistics, India’s Express Global Logistics (EXG) has successfully relocated immense modules to Saudi Arabia, crucial to a pioneering green hydrogen project. These massive units, each weighing an astounding 250 tonnes, played a pivotal role in the project’s development.
EXG faced the major challenge of transporting 14 gigantic structures, each 50 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 18 meters high, collectively tipping the scales at around 1,500 freight tonnes. The operation relied on advanced Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) from EXG’s own Megaload fleet, which included 48 axle lines and two powerful engines, as well as specially crafted spacers to handle the vast weight of these modules.
Eight modules utilized a sophisticated roll-on roll-off (RoRo) system. This involved the use of ramps and sturdy supports for smooth loading into the vessels. The remaining six modules were transported to a jetty on SPMTs before being carefully hoisted into position by crawler cranes.
EXG’s skilled engineering and operations teams adeptly navigated complex challenges to execute this demanding operation. Key to the mission’s success was the careful ballasting of shipping vessels, ensuring stability throughout the modules’ oceanic trek.
In pursuit of further expansion, EXG recently initiated a joint venture called Megaload with Italy’s Fagioli in January 2023. This partnership extends their expertise in sectors such as petrochemical and construction, focusing on innovative lifting techniques.
